Starting a New series on the book of James this Sunday!!!

For the next few weeks, we will be reading the book of James. There isn’t much difference in issues from the church of yesterday from the church of today. There are still trials to go through. There are still people in our communities who desperately need us to bring them, Jesus Christ. There are still unending hurtful conflicts that exist within the church. We still use our words to build up and to tear down one another.

James gets real. He doesn’t sugarcoat the real-life challenges that we face. He also doesn’t sugarcoat how easy it is to lose sight of the one that might transform all our challenges into something beautiful and redemptive.

James makes his claim that the catalyst in transforming our lives and our communities is faith. Most Christians know this word well. We say we have “faith in Jesus Christ”. But James calls us out and ask what it means to say those words. Famously he said, “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe…” Faith that goes nowhere and is stagnant… James… wonders if that is really faith.

Real faith makes a difference in lives. It bears fruit. It changes us and it changes our community. It isn’t just a matter of saying those words that we have faith but it is allowing those words to transform our lives. Sure we would like to judge others… but faith calls us to have mercy. Sure we would like to hurt those who have hurt us with their words… but faith calls us to offer grace to one another. Faith calls us to a higher life.

Looking forward to these next few weeks as we discover yet again where God is growing us deeper in faith not just our sake but for the sake of others.
