Exodus: Take Us Back

Wouldn't it be nice if God just waved a magic wand.... and poof our problems disappear? This is the God that the Israelites thought they were praying too. Secretly we hope this is what God would do for us in our difficulties.
"Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, 6 but you shall be for me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Israelites.” - Exodus 19:5,6
God says if you will follow my voice... you shall be treasured... you shall be set apart.

Most of us want a clear, defined path in front of us. We want to know whats next and the solution to our difficulties.

God never gives those types of details out to the Israelites nor to us.

In Isaiah 43:19, God said, "Behold, I am doing a new thing... I will make a way in the wilderness." This doesn't sound to promising. God is doing a new thing but it means venturing out into uncharted territories. I'd imagine we hear it like this... God, you want us to have a food pantry? But our pews are empty? God that is a lot of money that should go to our building...

God says if you will follow my voice... you shall be treasured... you shall be set apart.

When we hear of God's grand vision we check our bank account. We want everything to be right before we do what God has called us to do. We secretly hope our enemies would take the first step of reconciliation and not us. Or that the mission would come to us rather than us going to the mission.

The struggle within all of us is the fundamental belief that our oppression/difficulty is better than God. I'd rather complain than do what God says. God says first go to the wilderness... then I will provide a way.

What is your Egypt? What is God calling you to leave behind that you are holding on to with all your might? What steps is God calling you to take?

When we do what God has called us to do. He will be with us e v  e r y step of the way. What are you waiting for?
