Meet our Summer 2017 Duke Ministerial Intern

Dear Bethel UMC and Locust Hill UMC,

My name is Thomas Adrion Berezoski. I am a twenty-nine-year-old Master of Divinity student at Duke Divinity School. My calling from God, I discern, is to become a nondenominational pastor. The purpose is for Jesus Christ to work through me to reach, heal and transform as many lives as possible. I aspire to: teach and remain in the Bible, and create Christian apologies through the mediums of lectures, films, and books.

I believe I will be an effective Christian leader because of the difficult journey God has guided me through. The tribulations that enabled the most growth were that I came from a broken abusive low economic-class home, I went through a drug addiction as a young adult, and I was not a believer of God much less Jesus Christ. At the age of twenty-three I was on the verge of failing out of school and being homeless. I reached a point where the world and my human will had failed me so I cried out to God for help and the miraculous occurred—He answered! That day was August 7, 2011 and I have now been completely sober since August 8, 2011. Oddly enough, I really discovered Christianity and Jesus Christ through my work in the film industry. From my experience on commercials, documentaries, television shows, reality shows, and movies I became alarmingly aware of the magnitude of lies inculcated into me by the media since childhood. Through this experience God shook my paradigm to such an extent that I requisitioned my entire belief system at that time. I diligently pursued truth and what I found was Jesus Christ. I quickly recognized I was called to understand my faith formally through seminary. I enrolled in nearby Austin Presbyterian Seminary for a semester and a summer session then applied to transfer to Duke Divinity School.

My girlfriend Abby (soon to be fiancĂ©e) also moved to North Carolina to start a medical residency at the Duke University Hospital this past summer. We were both raised in Texas and plan to move back once we finish up with our educational programs at Duke. However, North Carolina has quickly grown on us and we love it here! I look forward to meeting everyone and getting “my feet wet” with my first ever ministerial internship!
