This Sunday @ Locust Hill UMC: Make Room

We live in a culture that does not stop. We glorify the busy. We no longer stop. We are stressed out. Anxious. Depressed. Lonely. And Addicted.  We celebrate the parent that "works really hard" but never is home. More-than-ever. Our identity is rooted more now in what we do and we no longer take time to simply pause and make room for God in each and every day. We can no longer as a Christian people live in such a way. It must be stopped.

Martha was doing all the right things. She was working hard. She was fulfilling her role while Mary was being so called lazy. Doing nothing sitting at the feet of Jesus. Yet Jesus in the middle of this family drama recognizes Mary's actions as holy and sacred and Martha's actions as a distraction.

We might believe that pausing each day to pray and read scripture (sit at the feet of Jesus) is doing nothing. What we might discover that it is much more a holy and sacred act. It is an act by which we recognize in everything that we do we are sustained and empowered by God. Each day we face as Christ following people it is our hope that we might find God in any event and circumstance that we might face.

Looking forward to making room for Jesus in our lives!
