This Sunday @ Locust Hill UMC! The BIG Five:::Service

What does service mean to you? For the past few weeks we have been focusing on the ways by which we are called to be loyal to Christ and his church by our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. We who are members of Christ's body are called to live out our faith in these five ways. Our focus this week will be service. Jesus said the greatest among you will be your servant. Paul says Jesus became nothing taking on the form of a slave. Jesus the son of God came to serve and give his life for all of humanity. He did not come to Lord his power over us or to condemn us with utter destruction instead he came to serve and calls his disciples to do the same.

Jesus demonstrated this servant-hood life by pouring himself out for the other, the poor, the destitute, the outcast. Many of us are great servants to our own but not to those who are on the outside. Jesus' life was servanthood. We can at times be focused on the "things" of life. In having a nice house, nice clothes, a nice car, but these things that at the end of the day don't really give us life.

Embedded in servanthood is the secret of life. It is in serving others that we GAIN life. So what does this mean for us? Does it mean that we need to find opportunities to serve at church more? Maybe. Maybe get involved more but more so it means to have a lifestyle of service where ever you might find yourself whether it be at the grocery store, your place of work, the gas station, etc. Because it is in those everyday places that God is calling us to serve one another.
