This Sunday @ Locust Hill UMC:: the BIG Five::: Witness

I have you ever heard of the term "witnessing"? It is where a Christian shares what is called the "plan of salvation." In doing this the hope is that the person hearing the plan of salvation will ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. This might be the way you came to Christ. This is where our minds go when we hear the word "witnessing" or "witness" especially if we come from the southern baptist tradition.

This word goes deeper than the plan of the salvation. It is a word the indicates that you have seen and experienced something. Jesus said after his resurrection in the beginning of Acts that you are my "Witnesses." He was not saying that we should go and share the plan of salvation. No, he was saying go share the story YOU have experienced. Go witness to the way in which if you have seen the resurrection at work in your own life.

The disciples took this story with them. They told the story of the chaos, the hurt, the suffering of their savior and most of all Jesus' triumph over death. They testified to what they had seen with their own eyes. What they had seen with their own eyes changed the lives of those around them not later but in the present.

So what does this mean for us? God is calling us to be witnesses. He calling us to not merely share the plan of salvation but to engage in life with our friends who have not seen the greatness of our God at work. We will dive more into this Sunday what it means to be God's witnesses.

See you Sunday!
