This Sunday @ Locust Hill UMC: Lord, Teach us to PRAY!

We are in our fourth week in our series on the "Lord, teach us to PRAY!" We are looking at what it means to accept and offer forgiveness. "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Forgiveness is a fundamental that every Christian believes but in reality it is the hardest to practice. Each and every Sunday we confess our sins before God and one another. We recognize our profound need for God's mercy and forgiveness. There is no doubt that offering forgiveness to those who have hurt us is difficult but we also recognize that it is a fruitful process (this we are promised). Offering forgiveness to others that have hurt us frees us into relationship with God. Jesus says whoever can't forgive others of their trespasses then God can't forgive you of your sins. This is seemingly harsh but what me might realize this Sunday is that when we hold on to "debts" it hardens not only that relationship but our relationship with God. This is why I think Jesus included this in this fundamental prayer. We need to pray for forgiveness each and everyday and we also need God's empowerment to live such lives.

Looking forward to diving deeper this Sunday!
