This Sunday @ Locust Hill UMC... 1 John Week 3

These past few Sunday I have said that if you don't read the bible or if you are on a sabbatical from reading the bible 1 John is a great place to jump in. John's three letters are easy to read and easy to understand. They give us a glimpse of who God has called us to be.
This week we will be diving deeper into what it means to love one another as Christ followers. John says that no one has ever seen God but if we love one another God dwells in us. When we think of loving one another we automatically think of those that are easy to love. John makes quite clear that we need love every one. We need to love our enemies, we need to love those that have hurt us, we need to love those that are in need, those that are different than  us. This is where loving one another gets challenging. Many Christians have not even begun to dive into what it means to love those who are against them or those who are different than them. Instead we stand with our judgement and excuses. Quite possibly because we might think more so of what we might lose than what we might gain. John reassures us that what we gain when we love instead of hate is BIG. He says that if we love one another God dwells in us. We get more of God when we love. What if we thought about loving others in this way? What if we thought more about what we might stand to gain and not lose? What if we realized and had faith that what lurks on the other side of loving those that have hurt us, against us, or different than us lurks LIFE.

John teaches us something really BIG that growth is not in what we know but in how we choose to live. In loving one another we grow closer to God! We can take that to the bank. Looking forward to diving deeper into this, this Sunday!

See YOU Sunday!
